The habits you think matter…don’t!


After this you'll change your weekly routine.

Last year I hired a personal trainer.

She had me on a strict program!

  • 5.45am early sessions
  • Heavy weights - 120kg hip trusts!)
  • High protein meal plans - 1250 calories per day
  • 10k minimum daily steps or 15-30 mins on the cross-trainer after our session.

It was solid, I felt strong and enjoy being pushed to my limits!

Plus, it worked. I looked the best I’ve ever looked.

Then, after 8 months of consistency, I spent 2 weeks solo in Portugal where I mainly did 5km runs as my form of fitness.

From Portugal, followed an immediate trip to Ghana for 4 weeks. Beach runs turned into morning walks in my quiet Accra neighbourhood.

When I came back to England in November, it was the miserable beginnings of winter. I chose a slower morning pace over the strict routine I once had.

And yet, here’s the surprising thing.
It's going to sound very much the opposite of what people 'think' I teach...

Even without the full 'optimised' routine, I haven’t lost all my progress.

A few core habits stuck, like eating relatively well, moving my body, not hardcore gym sessions or 10k steps but enough.

Those few things have been
enough to hold me steady.

When I was training with Amara I came down from 83kg to 75kg.
Today I'm 77kg. It's not that far off, at all.

That’s the lesson.

We often think success (in fitness, business or life) comes from doing everything perfectly. The morning routine, the 5am start, the endless to-do list, the flawless plan.

But let’s be real, that’s why most people feel exhausted and stuck.

They’re overloaded with tasks that don’t matter so much, shaming themselves when they can’t keep up and (pay close attention to this) missing the few actions that actually maintain a good balance.

Again, this doesn't sound like a very Dior thing to say but...
Not all habits are useful.

Years ago, in my membership, I remember Tobi, a great artist building up her works for an upcoming show.

She messaged me saying
"Dior, I'm following the routine everyone else is doing but I'm so tired and not inspired for the rest of the day."

I told her to stop immediately!
If it's not working for YOU, it's not worth it!

She created a new more creative morning set up and thrived.

What really matters is identifying the handful of actions that move the needle for you. The minimum actions that actually keep you moving forward.

The ones that sustain you in this season, not the ones that burn you out, make you feel guilty or keep you trapped in a shame cycle.

So if you’ve been feeling bad about not sticking to some 'perfect routine', this is your permission slip.

Let go of the pressure.
Focus on the actions that matter most.
Commit to those.
